"Aqua Numerals: An Oceanic Candle Sculpture Series"
Client Introduction
The client for this project is a prominent educational institution specializing in design and technology. They seek to showcase innovative 3D moulding techniques through a student-led project that demonstrates design proficiency and creativity.
Design Task
The task involves designing a set of numerals from 0 to 9 as 3D molded sculptures, to be showcased in an exhibition demonstrating advanced 3D design and molding capabilities. The numerals should not only represent artistic innovation but also demonstrate technical skill in 3D modelling, material selection, and the moulding process.
Design Solution
Marine Theme: Inspired by oceanic elements, each numeral is designed to reflect different aspects of marine life, incorporating organic forms such as waves, coral textures, and marine creatures into the very shape of the numbers.
3D Modeling: Each numeral is carefully modelled and sculpted using Blender to incorporate intricate details and textures that mimic natural marine elements. This includes simulating the appearance of organic shapes, coral, and marine flora within the numeral’s structure.
Material Considerations: The sculptures are to be moulded from eco-friendly resins that are both durable and capable of capturing the high level of detail required. These materials also allow for varying degrees of translucency, which can be used to enhance the visual impact of the pieces.
Colour and Finish: Each numeral is tinted with colours derived from the ocean and corals palette—blues, greens,  yellows, purple, pink and pearl whites. Special attention is given to the finish of each sculpture to enhance its visual depth and mimic the light-reflective properties of life.
Exhibition and Documentation:
Exhibiting the Work: The final set of numerals is displayed in a prominent exhibition at the institution, demonstrating the capabilities of modern 3D design and moulding techniques.
Documentation and Evaluation: Detailed documentation of the design and production process is provided, including technical drawings, 3D renderings, and descriptions of the material and moulding choices. This serves as an educational resource for other students and professionals interested in 3D design and fabrication.
